How My Life Changed When I Became A Mom

Hello all,

In celebration of Mother’s Day, I want to write about what it was like when I became a mom nearly 14 years ago.

My pregnancy was a difficult one and I went into labor twice then, in the end, needing to have an emergency C-Section.  I can say that after my daughter was born I was scared and overwhelmed at what was to come about this new role that I now will have for the rest of my life.  Before I had my daughter I was only responsible for taking care of me and my dog and that was it.  After she was born I had no clue what being a mom truly meant.

Thankfully, my own mother was there to help me during my first month of motherhood. She had to teach me how to change diapers, how to properly hold her and how to feed her.  I, unfortunately, wasn’t able to breastfeed my daughter long so just learning how to prepare bottles and formula was a huge learning experience.  I pretty much had a great system going for that first year but after she started walking and talking it was a different ball game.

Being a mom especially a single mom hasn’t been easy.  I salute mothers that are single moms with more than one child. Without the support of my own mother, I don’t know how I would have been able to handle this lifetime role.

My daughter turns 14 in a short couple of months and just realizing that in 4 more years she will be a young grown woman heading to college to start experiencing adulthood herself.  I can only hope that I have prepared her and that during these high school years our relationship will continue to grow stronger.

So in all, I just want to dedicate this post to all of the strong moms all around the world.  Without us, there will be no world.

Happy Mother’s Day!!!
