The Ordinary Skin Care Review

Hello all,

This week I am doing a review of “The Ordinary” Skincare Line.  I learned about this skincare line a while back when I was looking for a good Vitamin C Serum.  I had been suffering from hormonal acne for a couple of years and finally found a regime that cleared up my skin.  Unfortunately, the acne left dark spots mostly around my jawline area.  I noticed this particular line while I was on the Sephora website and started to read about the products that this brand offered. I also noticed the price point of this product as well.  I love great budget-friendly skincare that packs a punch.

The Ordinary is an evolving collection of treatments offering familiar, effective clinical technologies positioned to raise pricing and communication integrity in skincare. The brand was created to celebrate integrity in its most humble and true form. Its offering is pioneering, not in the familiar technologies it uses, but in its honesty and integrity. The Ordinary is born to disallow commodity to be disguised as ingenuity. The Ordinary is “Clinical formulations with integrity”.

I decided to try out two products that could help with my current skincare issues which are discoloration and dryness. Here is my reviews and thoughts below.

Vitamin C Suspension 23%
+ HA Spheres 2%

I decided to try out this Vitamin C solution because it was highly recommended by a beauty influencer that I follow on YouTube plus as mentioned before I had been checking out this line for a while now. I wasn’t sure if this product would be great for me but for the price and the positive review I decided to order this from Sephora.  Here are the details of this product below.

Details – $5.80

Vitamin C is an effective antioxidant and its pure form of l-ascorbic acid has been shown to improve multiple signs of skin aging while brightening the skin.

This product contains a 23 percent concentration of pure vitamin C, which remains completely stable due to the absence of water. It is vegan, cruelty-free, and formulated without oil, alcohol, silicone, nuts, gluten, and fragrance.

When I received this product I was skeptical but I am always trying to find products to address the skincare issues that I have.  The texture of this product is gritty and I did notice that once applied, it does sting a little bit but it’s not too bad.  This product is an acid so if you have extremely sensitive skin, I wouldn’t recommend this product for you.  I have been using this solution for about 2 months now.  I can say that it does brighten your skin and my skin does have this great glow about it. I use this every other day because I don’t want to cause my skin to change as far as sensitivity if I used this every day.  As far as the dark spots, I have noticed some changes and a little bit of fading but I believe it will take a few more months to really notice a difference.  Overall I do like this product and for the price, I do plan on purchasing it again.

Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5

Okay, another issue that I deal with as far as my skin is extreme dryness.  Like my skin is in constant need of moisture. Hyaluronic Acid is the absolute best as far as combating dryness to the skin.  Most of the skincare moisturizer that I do use contains Hyaluronic Acid.  The Ordinary Hyaluronic acid serum was also suggested to me as a great combination to the Ordinary Vitamin C solution.  Due to the grittiness of that solution, I do mix the two together to apply during my night time skincare routine. By itself, I do like to apply this serum during my day time routine before I apply my moisturizer. Here are the details below.

Details – $6.80

This formulation combines low, medium, and high molecular weight hyaluronic acid, as well as a next-generation H.A. crosspolymer at a combined concentration of two percent for multi-depth hydration. This system is supported with the addition of B5 for enhanced hydration.

I have been using this product the same amount of time as the Vitamin C solution.  I can say that I really love this serum.  It helps balance out the moisture in my skin. I have also noticed that my skin feels more balanced when I apply this serum right before my moisturizer.  This serum absorbs really fast into the skin and like I said I do use this serum along with the Vitamin C solution at night to help with the grittiness that you may feel during application.  In all for the price, I do plan on purchasing this serum again.

My Final Thoughts

I have only great things to say about this skincare line.  The price is affordable and compared to higher end products I do actually see some results.  I will say again if you have very sensitive skin, I would check out other product offerings from this skincare line that may be more suitable for you.

I hope you liked my review of “The Ordinary” skincare line.  Let me know in the comments if you have ever tried out this line as well and what results you had.

Until next time.

  1. Great review. I love the Ordinary!! I have the Vit C and yes, it’s gritty, but amazing. I haven’t tried the hyaluronic yet, but it’s on the wish list. Here’s three that you have to try: Rosehip oil, Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2%, and the AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling solution. I absolutely love the Rosehip oil, it absorbs quickly and feels great. The peeling solution makes your skin so soft after the first use. I can’t wait to try more.
