This week’s blog will be focused on skin care. Now that I am in my 40’s, skin care has truly became an obsession for me. In my teen’s and 20’s, my skin was typical. I have always taken care of my skin. I typically used a cleanser and a moisturizer, nothing to much over the top.
Once I turned 30 my skin started to change. Now let me rewind, I had my lovely daughter at 28 so after her birth, I started to notice some changes to my skin. My dermatologist pretty much told me at the time that my hormone levels were now readjusting since I was not pregnant anymore. So at the time I was like okay and eventually I was back at my normal routine. Then when I hit my late 30’s my skin went haywire. I started breaking out really bad and the main focus of my breakouts was in my chin and jawline areas. Of course that area of breakouts is usually hormonal in nature. So I started to research and try new products that could possibly work for my skin to get it under control.
After about a year of hit and misses I finally figured out and created a skin care regime that works for me. I have learned that I can’t use the same products year round that my skin needs change during the fall/winter and spring/summer months. During the Fall/Winter months, my skin is bone dry so I typically use products that gently cleans and keep my skin as hydrated as possible during those months. When the Spring/Summer comes around my skin become dry combination in nature. So I don’t need to hydrate quite as much during those months. So I am going to give you a break down of my skin care regime. I am not saying that this will necessary work for you but I hope that this will be a great guide on developing and sticking to a skin care regime that works for you.
The first thing that I do when I wake up is cleans my skin. Cleaning your skin will help remove dirt, oil and makeup that your skin can accumulate overnight. Make sure you are using a cleanser made for your skin type, so you don’t strip your skin’s natural moisture. I currently use the Clinique Liquid Facial Soap – Extra Mild. This soap doesn’t strip any moisture from my skin. During the Spring/Summer Months I do readjust my cleanser and will use the Clinique Liquid Facial Soap -Mild formula. It’s is not as creamy and during the Spring/Summer months when my skin produces a little oil this formula also does wonders.
For some reason a lot of people skip this step and for a time I was one of those people. I use to think that toners were too harsh for my skin. Toners are actually great for the skin. Many are formulated to deliver moisture and anti-aging benefits. Toners also help remove left over makeup or build up that occurs during the day as well as over night. I use toner during my daytime/night time skin routine. As with cleansers, toners are specifically formulated for different skin types. I currently use the Clinique Clarifying lotion 1. During the fall/winter months when my skin is at it very much on the dry side this use the number Clinique formulation and during the Spring/Summer months I use the Clarifying lotion 2.
Now that my skin is all prepped and squeaky clean, its time to apply my favorite serum. There are so many serums out there that is specifically formulated to address concerns such as acne, wrinkles, rosacea and hyper pigmentation. Serums and are more highly concentrated designed to deliver benefits deep into the skin layers. For me, my favorite serum really addresses the dryness in my skin. Usually I will use a serum at night normally right before I moisturize but you can definitely use serum in the morning as well. I am currently using the Seventh Generation Hydrating Serum which has done wonders for my skin. To find the best serum that will work for you make sure you do some research and maybe even try a few samples of products.
Hydrated and moisturized skin is essential to fight wrinkles and blemishes. Moisturizing your skin promotes healthy skin by reinforcing its protective barrier. Even if you have oily skin including a moisturizer into your skin care routine is a must. For me I go in between two different moisturizers throughout the year. During the Fall/Winter months I use a more cream based moisturizer and during the Spring/Summer months I use more of a facial lotion. Like always I stick with the Clinique skin care brand as well and if I want to use a something different, I love the Neutrogena Hydro Boost line.
So that was the complete break down of my skin care regime. Being in my 40’s I do feel that skin care is a must and at this age, we really need to take care of our skin to ensure that our skin will stay youthful and vibrant as it can.
